Our Cloe Family History
Cloe family has been traced to James Cloe of Scotland. He was born
circa 1730's. He and his wife Mary immigrated to Stafford Co.,
VA. They had ten children. We descend through their son,
James who was born on October 17, 1763. The second James married
Elizabeth in Stafford Co., VA. They had at least two sons, Henry
Our line continues through Henry Cloe who was born on April 1, 1790 in Stafford Co., VA. He married Ann Foxworthy in 1812 in Stafford County. They first moved to Clarke Co., KY and then to Marion County, IA where Henry died on September 21, 1876. Ann died June 10, 1869. They are both buried in the Concord Cemetery in Marion County, IA.
Henry and Ann had nine children. Click here to see their Family Group Sheet.
Our line continues through their daughter, Lydia Ann. Lydia first married her cousin, Gilbert Cloe. They had one daughter, Narcissa Jane (who married William London in Marion County, IA on November 17, 1850). Gilbert died in 1833 in Danville, IL. Lydia moved to Marion County with her small daughter. I'm not sure if her parents were already in Marion County or if they all moved together. There Lydia married Isaac Brady on October 25, 1836. Then had ten children. Click here to see their Family Group Record.
We continue through their daughter Martha Ann who married Henry Daniel McCoy.
For anyone interested in other children of either Henry and Ann Foxworthy Cloe or Lydia and Isaac Brady, please send me an e-mail. I will gladly share what information I do have.
An interesting side note. The William London that Narcissa married was the uncle of my grandmother, Nora Adams McCoy. So the Cloe's, McCoy's and London's were related by marriage before my Grandmother and Grandfather McCoy married.
